What's a "Green" Wine?

Well, that's a very good question.

Green wines are eco-friendly wines produced under one or more of the following conditions:

Organically Grown - this means the wine was grown using no chemicals, nitrogen products or genetic engineering.  Wineries who employ organic growing methods also use composting to enhance the ecosystem.  Wines labeled organic must be government-certified.

Sustainably Farmed - these wines are produced under farming guidelines that employ the use of biodegradable resources, strict soil and water conservation, and biodiesel fuel to run farm equipment.  Sustainably-farmed wines are one step further in the "green wine revolution" than organically-grown wines.

Biodynamically Farmed - farmers who follow biodynamic principles maintain a philosophy of farming as tending to the earth.  They focus on lunar phases and the cosmos, and the metaphysical environmental effect caused by the growth of their plants.

Carbon-Neutral - these wines are produced under farming methods that are considered to be at the forefront of green growing and production techniques.  Farmers who strive to be carbon-neutral make vast efforts to reduce or eliminate CO2 emissions from their agricultural practices, thereby making a direct impact on environmental problems such as global warming.
